Yearly Bible (YB) is a daily Bible reading plan for Glendale disciples who want to read the Bible through in our school year. Reading the Bible through in a year is a time-tested way to grow closer to God. You won't be able to go as deep into some story or detail as you might naturally do, but you will be able to see the big picture of who God is and how God works and this helps you grow your relationship with God in a versy special way.

In the YB plan, usually readings come from the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Psalms or Proverbs. This is a unique reading plan because you read the Bible through in the order the events happened (chronologically) in the Old Testament and roughly in the order the books were written in the New Testament. This will allow us to see God's story in history and make connections in ways that reading the Bible straight from cover to cover will not.

We recommend using the New International Version for this reading, but use a version that you are comfortable with. The average amount of words per day is around 3,500 with some being as low as 2,000 and 6 days having readings of 4,500 or more. (Word counts based on the King James Version.) This means a high school student could likely read or listen to the text in 15-35 minutes each day depending on their reading speed.

Readings are scheduled every day Sunday-Friday until graduation weekend. You are welcome to read extra to catch up or get ahead. We do not have any readings assigned on Saturday to give you space to read for pleasure, catch up, or get ahead. Reading the Bible through at this rate requires great focus and doing so will be a real accomplishment for all who achieve it.

In addition to the verse references, you'll notice each day's reading has a title in parentheses. This title refers to the era of biblical history in which the events occur. Except for the readings from Psalms and Proverbs (most Psalms and Proverbs come from the 4th era), readings from the Old Testament come from this era. The New Testament readings all come from the 7th era, Jesus & the Church, so they are not marked.
